This dazzlingly historic and stunningly urban city, located in Alsace,
is home to a variety of historical attractions, including the Gothic masterpiece,
Cathedrale
Notre Dame de Strasbourg, built in 1284. The history of Strasbourg dates back
to 12 B.C. when it became the main outpost of the Roman empire. Hundreds of years
later, the city was given a fresh vitality in 1949 when the European
Parliament chose the city as its gathering point. The Palais Rohan, a regal
structure erected in the 1700s, is now open to the public and is home to three
museums. For a taste of the authentic, visit Petite
France Quarter, a traditional Alsatian district with lush gardens and a variety
of notable historic homes. Drama buffs will be enthralled by the Theatre
National de Strasbourg (TNS), which stages several productions throughout
the year. The merging of German and French culture results in unique cuisine that
is both creatively prepared and robust. Jardin
des deux Rives is situated along the Rhine river, with a picturesque foot
bridge to Germany. Modern architecture, including the Louise
Weiss Building, blends with the picturesque buildings of yesterday, making
for an unforgettable experience.
